Atlantis (OV-104) is the fourth NASA shuttle to complete a space flight. It was one of the five reusable shuttles used to transport people and equipment into Earth's orbit. The maiden flight took place on October 3, 1985. During its 26 years of service, Atlantis undertook 33 missions and spent 306 days in orbit around the Earth. With the shuttle's landing on July 21, 2011, after a successful mission to supply the International Space Station, the era of the Space Shuttle ended. After retirement, Atlantis was transported to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, where it now serves as a museum.
The Hubble Space Telescope, which orbits in low Earth orbit, is named after the American astronomer Edwin Hubble. The telescope was launched into orbit on April 24, 1990, by the Discovery space shuttle. Since its introduction, it has become one of the most important instruments in the history of astronomy and provides an incredible amount of data. The Atlantis space shuttle serviced the Hubble telescope during the STS-125 mission in 2009. During the mission, new instruments were delivered and necessary repairs were made.
