Construction equipment models in 1:50 – the collector's scale

1:50 is the standard for construction equipment, and for good reason. The rule of thumb: What measures ten meters in reality becomes twenty centimeters in the model. Large enough for true detail – hydraulic lines, labeled cabins, movable joints – and small enough for an entire construction site to fit in a display case.

How to recognize a good model

The first touch reveals everything: Die-cast zinc has weight. Models made entirely of plastic feel hollow and deform over time. With the models here, the main body is made of metal; plastic is only used where necessary – windows, hoses, tracks.

The second characteristic is movable functional parts. A boom that can be extended in several segments, a rotatable superstructure, lowerable outriggers: This distinguishes a collector's model from a toy.

Factory version, customer version, special model

Most models are released in the factory version, i.e., in the house color of the machine manufacturer. There are also customer versions in the livery of actual construction and crane companies. These are particularly sought after by collectors because they are produced in smaller quantities.

What you'll find here

This category bundles everything that works on a construction site: Excavators in tracked and mobile versions, wheel loaders, dozers and crawler loaders, telehandlers, rollers, drilling rigs, and asphalt pavers. What drives instead of digs can be found under truck models, what lifts under crane models.
