WSI Models 1:50 – when the decal makes the difference
There are model manufacturers who accurately replicate a machine. And then there's WSI. The difference isn't in the mold, but in what's printed on it: company logos in the correct font, license plates, warning signs, stickers in the same places they are on the original. Those who collect WSI collect this precision.
Focus: Heavy Haulage and Cranes
WSI is strongest where it gets complicated. Multi-axle low loaders and heavy haulage vehicles, all-terrain and mobile cranes, tractor units with loading cranes. These are the models with the most moving parts – and that's where a manufacturer proves their craftsmanship.
Haulage Company Models: the real appeal
A large part of WSI's program appears in the livery of real transport and crane companies. For collectors, this is the difference between a truck and the truck: the vehicle of a specific company, often built in small editions. Collectors focusing on a particular company will find models here that are unique.
What to look for when buying
The printing: Sharp edges, no misregistration, correct logos. For haulage company models, this is the most important quality indicator of all.
The function: Tilting bodies, rotatable fifth wheels, extendable booms and outriggers. What moves on the original should be able to move on the model.
Completeness: Many models come with loose accessories – ballast weights, outrigger pads, crane hooks. This is the most common missing item when buying used.
